Bioassay Lab Expansion, Edmonton

We have just expanded our Edmonton rainbow trout bioassay laboratory.   This CALA accredited facility was previously limited by the number of rainbow trout acute toxicity bioassays that could be conducted at one time.  To solve this capacity issue, we expanded the area and the efficiency our laboratory space.  These improvements over double the number of rainbow trout bioassays that can be conducted at one time.

This effort was initiated based on important feedback from our clients.   It will provide greater scheduling flexibility and allow acceptance of larger trout bioassay projects.

If you have any questions about CARO’s acute toxicity bioassay capabilities or service offerd by ourEdmontonlaboratory please contact Garry Ogletree (Edmonton’s Business Development Manager) or Doug Johnson (Alberta’s Business Manager).  Both will be more than happy to assist you.

New Capabilities & Accreditation At CARO

CARO’s Richmond divison just received CALA accreditation for a wide range of new analyses.  Of note, we are now accredited for pesticides and herbicides in water and solid matrices. This includes the organophosphorus, organochlorine and carbamate pesticides, organonitrogen and acid herbicides, as well as Diquat/Paraquat, and Glyphosate. We are proud to be the only laboratory in BC with this distinction.  Our accreditation now covers over 95% of the latest Canadian Drinking Water Quality Guidelines.  As well, detection limits meet guidelines specified in the BCMOE CSR, Alberta Tier 1 and CCME regulations.

We also expanded our accrediation scope to more conprehensively support “contaminated site” related testing parameters in BC and Alberta.   For a complete listing of CARO’s Richmond Scope of Accreditation, click here.

We are proud to support our clients through continued development of capabilites.  Stay tuned for more informantion other interesting projects.

Greener Reports and Invoices at CARO

With the recent postal strike we felt challenged to continue to do business with our clients and service providers as we still rely on mail delivery of reports, invoices and cheques.  In addition, at CARO, we are continually looking to improve on our service delivery and conduct our business in a more sustainable and ecologically friendly manner.  Electronic reporting of reports and invoices achieves both of these goals.

Already, in the past year we have been delivering our reports and invoices electronically and for some clients still in the paper format.  If you wish to only receive the electronic copy, we would be happy to oblige and as we look forward to the future, we will likely be looking to only deliver electronic reports and invoices.  Further to this, we are also including on our invoices electronic payment information (EFT) to enable any invoice to be paid electronically by our clients.

We look forward to any feedback that you may have on this and any suggestions for further improvements.

New CARO Metals Detection Limits

CARO is pleased to announce market leading detection limits for metals in water and soil.    In late 2010, after months of evaluating available technologies, we purchased one of the newest Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometers (ICP-MS) on the market.  The Agilent 7700x ICP-MS enables us to analyze water, solid and tissue samples at some of the lowest reportable detection limits in the industry.

This leads the market in supporting environmental impact assessment work, including the BCMOE “Water and Air Resource Protection Guidelines for Mine Proponents and Operators” currently under development. As an example, we are able to routinely report arsenic in water at 2 parts per trillion (ppt).  This is 250 times lower than typical industry capabilities.

Why is this important? At pristine sites, instead of monitoring “< DL” data, consultants can now assess environment trends at lower levels and with much more certainty than ever before.

We look forward bringing this high-level technical expertise to our clients. This initiative further supports CARO’s commitment to next-generation capabilities and our vision of industry technical leadership.  Please contact us to discuss your low- level metals needs.  We are always more than happy to assist you.
