CARO Analytical Services aims to create a workplace for scientists that is better than our industry has seen before. Through this commitment to long-term career development and growth, we have amassed a team of charismatic scientists whose energy and drive makes every laboratory interaction a great one. One of the newest members of our team, Jesse Dang, has taken on the responsibility of expanding testing capabilities to the environmental sector in Alberta – and we want you to meet him!
Jesse Dang joined CARO in September 2020, bringing with him over 20 years of experience in analytical testing and quality control (that’s a lot of wisdom, Jesse!) Lucky for us, he chose to accept the mission of undertaking an aggressive scope expansion in our Edmonton Laboratory, while overseeing testing and ensuring safety standards are continuously met. After spending many years in the analytical testing industry, Jesse is no stranger to the quality data Alberta demands, and of the quick timelines needed to achieve project objectives in this market.
We caught up with Jesse to share more about his career, hobbies and how he is eager to drive CARO Edmonton to the next level:
What drew you to a career at CARO?
I have been in the industry for over 20 years and had forgotten why I entered this industry in the first place – to make the world safer and healthier. CARO was able to remind me of this, and it was a refreshing perception shift. I also felt that this was a company that really cares about its employees, and endeavors to build a workplace for scientists better than the industry has seen.
What do you hope to achieve with CARO in Alberta?
I am committed to helping the company, and particularly the Edmonton lab, reach its fullest potential. Not only am I focused on growth but also ensuring that I am building a safe and positive work environment for high-performing employees, so we can recruit and retain some of the best minds in the business. To build a successful business, there needs to be a collaboration between the employer and employees, as well as collaboration between the laboratory and its customers. Every day I focus on building a culture of collaboration, and hope that our clients can feel the chemistry between our team and theirs!
How does CARO make a difference in Alberta’s environmental sector, and what can the Province expect from CARO this year?
At CARO, we take a friendly and professional approach to all our customers no matter how big or small they are. This includes individual homeowners trying to determine if their well water is safe to drink to larger corporations looking to make a positive impact on the environment.
With our expansion plan in place to add soil testing capabilities, we will be able to offer the CARO experience to an even greater range of clients, and maybe shake up the industry a bit! We are continually striving to improve, and have the flexibility to grow and innovate with our clients.
Do you have a go-to song that you listen to when you need to get your workday rolling?
I love 70s rock and roll. Pink Floyd in particular; Wish you Were Here is my go-to.
Jesse is currently focusing his attention to the operational expansion, including the acquisition of instrumentation, the development of methods, and of course the expansion of our technical team in Edmonton. Once in place, these methods will compliment our existing water testing capabilities with some “dirty dirt” testing. When he hangs his lab coat up at the end of each day, Jesse enjoys spending his spare time dabbling in photography, gardening, and woodworking (he can build more than just an analytical lab!)
If you happen to be dropping off samples or picking up supplies at our Edmonton laboratory, make sure to introduce yourself to Jesse. You can rock out to Pink Floyd together, and he might even share a story (or two) about instrument mechanics.
If you are eager to learn more about Jesse and the work he is doing at CARO, you can also reach out to him on LinkedIn. While you are there, do not forget to follow CARO on LinkedIn too – we are always sharing industry news and laboratory updates to keep you ahead of the curve.
